Obesity linked to prostate cancer

May 29th, 2011 by san-felice team

The men who are fighting against the prostate cancer are twice as likely to die by the disease if they are obese, according to a new study.
Michel Pollak one of the oncologists of McGill University that next to the Harvard University conducted the study declare: “If we were detectives could say that we have a suspected very serious”
The study found that obese men who suffer from prostate cancer are twice as likely to die as men who carried a healthy weight. The high levels of insulin (which is linked to obesity) are related to the possibilities of dying in cancer patients.
This new study linking the prostate cancer to obesity is important not only for having confirmed the link between these factors, but also spoke of the possibility of a new line of studies in relation to the treatment of prostate cancer.
The relationship between the secretion of insulin and the risk of dying of prostate cancer gives rise to more research to develop strategies to prevent and treat this type of cancer. Read the rest of this entry »

The protective effect of mushrooms

May 26th, 2011 by san-felice team

The new study on the Chinese women, done by a team of the University of Western Australia in Perth, found that women who ate at least 10g of mushrooms, fresh daily were a 64 percent less prone to develop breast cancer.
The dried mushrooms had a little less protective effect, reducing the risk of about half and women who combined with a diet of mushrooms regular consumption of green tea were recorded a larger profit.
The risk among women of this group was reduced by almost 90 per cent; green tea contains antioxidant compounds called poly phenols that have shown combat breast tumors in animals.
The black tea, although in fact is the same plant called Camellia novenas, it is not believed to have the same properties since the leaves are processed in another way, fermentation process to diminish the natural compounds poly phenols.
The Investigator Min Zhang and his colleagues stressed that the study does not prove cause and effect, despite the fact that does not account for other known risk factors for breast cancer, such as the weight of the women, education, frequency of exercise and smoking habits, could be other factors that explain the results. A study of nearly 360,000 people in nine European countries are the size of the waist a “powerful risk indicator”.
Each extra 5cm raises the possibility of premature death between a 13 per cent and 17 per cent.
The New England Journal of Medicine in a study stressed that doctors should measure regularly waist of patients as a cheap and simple system for assessing the health.
The link between the fat from the waist and health problems has been established for some time, but the size of the study gives scientists a measure more accurate.
The standard measure of obesity, the body mass index (BMI) remains a reasonable predictor of health problems, with which they have a high reading; they are more likely to die of cardiovascular disease or cancer.
Some people who had a BMI normal, but an average of more than the waist, had significantly increased risk of premature death. Read the rest of this entry »

Molecule of cancer prevention

May 19th, 2011 by san-felice team

The “macrocetona” is a molecule of recent discovery by American scientists that could prevent a disease so difficult to combat such as cancer. It appeared to be able to prevent the spread of cancer cells, and the formation of malignant tumors.
This molecule which was carried out in a laboratory and generate hope for thousands of people affected by this harsh disease. This method trying to stop the well-known metastasis, and thus stopping the spread of malignant cells in the body.
The origin of this molecule is the migrastation, product of a type bacterial, which owns minimum properties to prevent the spread of cancer in the agency.
The “macrocetona” would then be a substitute artificial migrastation, able to increase its capacity anti-cancer thousands of times more than natural substance.
This molecule new, according to studies, prevents the metastasis in an 80 per cent figure quite substantial and encouraging. Does not prevent the emergence of the primary tumor but stops its growth as it does not allow the cell malignant expands (neutralizes an element cell called fascinates).
