A glass or two of red wine, may increase a woman’s libido, according to a new study in which researchers concluded that sexual desire levels are higher in women who are moderate drinkers of red wine, compared to their counterparts who prefer other alcoholic beverages.
One theory presented by a team of Italian doctors who conducted the study, found that chemical compounds found in red wine can improve sexual function by increasing blood flow to key areas of the body.
The researchers said: “While this result should be interpreted with caution, it nonetheless suggests a possible link between consumption of red wine and improved sexuality.”
The project considered the first to examine the intake of red wine and its relationship to female sexual function was conducted by doctors at the University of Florence and was carried out on 800 women aged between 18 and 50.
None of the women had reported sexual health problems, were divided into three groups, those who regularly consumed one or two glasses of red wine a day, and those who consumed less than one drink a day for any wine or other beverages alcoholic and that they were abstinent.
In general, red wine drinkers showed an average of 27.3 points, compared to 25.9 for those who consumed less frequently and 24.4 for non-drinkers.
The researchers, who reported their findings in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, the result is even more surprising because red wine drinkers were on average older than the other two age groups and tends to be associated with a decrease in desire sexual.
How? the wine has such an effect is not clear, although there are several theories, one is that the antioxidants in red wine has a beneficial effect on the lining of blood vessels and dilation, thus increasing blood flow to areas key body.
